Time is winding down on the countdown clock in the new athletic facility. It is down to the days, hours, minutes, and even seconds until the next game for the L.D. Bell football team, and the entire school seems to be holding its breath in anticipation.
The opponent for this week is the Grapevine Mustangs (0-3), a team that fails in comparison to L.D. Bell in every category.
The Raiders have more than 1,200 total yards over a three-game span with a 2-1 record. The Raiders are also consistently in the top 3 of every major team category with the exception of scoring defense.
The Raiders also have at least one player in the top 5 of every major individual offensive category, and senior quarterback Colson Romano is leading the district in passing.
Grapevine, on the other hand, is constantly in the bottom 2 of every major team category, with the exception of rushing defense.
Grapevine is among the lowest of the district when it comes to passing defense-a category that should hurt them since the Raiders are second in the district in passing offense.
With statistics in mind, I expect to see the Raiders put themselves on top over the Mustangs on Friday night and advance to 1-0 in district play and 3-1 overall.
